Côte-Rôtie, a Rhone Valley Cru, encompasses 330 hectares of vineyards on steep right-bank Rhône slopes in Saint-Cyr sur Rhône, Ampuis, and Tupin-Semons, ranging from 180 to 325m above sea level. It includes 73 officially-registered lieux-dits. The vineyards face south and have a continental climate like Lyon, with mild winters, hot summers, and regular rainfall. The Mediterranean influence is seen in dry southerly winds.
Soil: Mica schist to the north, gneiss to the south and migmatite in the extreme south east.
Vinification and ageing:
Grapes are hand-picked in small cases of 20 kg. 100% Whole bunch fermentation. Whole bunch vatting for 5 to 7 days until a semi-carbonic fermentation begins to start the foot stomping Ageing for 15 to 18 months in demi-muids (500L oak barrels), 228L, 300L oak barrels of 1 to 3 years old.
