2022, early vintage, heterogenous. The vine being a resilient plant, it adapted perfectly to the weather conditions. The fruity flavors, the fresh and tasty textures and the wide volume on the palate promise some worth keeping wine.

The wine presents a beautiful aromatic expression of fruit. It is a fresh Riesling with a nice vivacity, showing nice aromas of minerality, in addition with aromatics herbs such as verbena. The first impression in mouth is really pleasant; the freshness is present playing delicately with some ripe fruits, some pepper scent and lime, associated with a small tint of white flower, as linden. The acidity gives an exceptional precision, all in finesse.

About brand

It is the result of the union of two great families of winegrowers: the Manns, winegrowers since the beginning of the 17th century and the Barthelmé, the current owners, winegrowers since 1654.In the heart of Alsace, our estate thrives in Wettolsheim, ideally located in a region with an ancient wine-growing tradition. It is thanks to the union of two Alsatian winegrower families, the Manns and the Barthelmé, that the estate has perpetuated its history for several decades. From then on, women and men from various backgrounds bring the stones that consolidate our domain over the years.

From the years 1997 biodynamics sounded obvious to us. This culture requires a lot of work and more investment, giving the wine its own identity as well as a pure reflection of a terroir. Thanks to these biodynamic preparations, we promote the organic life of the soils and the development of mycorrhizae present on the roots of the vine. So many factors that make it possible to bring the quintessence of the terroir to the wine. In addition, by juggling between plowing and plant cover, we also manage to bring the roots down to the depths to capture as much as possible the minerals from the degradation of the bedrock.

Our desire, to produce wines in harmony with the land. It is the memory of the grape, capable of transmitting the latter's taste. The cellar is a sacred place where the magic operates to make the work of a year bear fruit. Currently, the estate covers 23 hectares divided into a hundred small cultivation islands, which we work like a hundred small gardens. Throughout the vinification, finesse is the watchword. Our wines will develop delicately in our winery at the bottom of the village.

Our fruit was harvested by hand at the end of February then whole-bunch pressed and settled in tank before transfer to tank and barrel for fermentation. The wine underwent a partial malolactic fermentation and was aged for 10 months – part in stainless steel tank to retain fresh fruit flavours, part in barrel for added complexity. We used a mix of old and new French oak barrels. Crisp & Refreshing, White, Medium-bodied wine. Great with river trout, Asian style dishes, roast chicken.

This fruit was hand harvested in late March in a selection of our vineyards; the majority was from the Wilyabrup sub-region and there was a parcel from Carbunup. The wine was aged in French oak barriques, 30 per cent new, for 15 months.

The pebble-rich and limestone soils of Volnay, rising between 230 and 280 meters above sea level, makes for a delicate, aromatic, and elegant Pinot Noir revealing the feminine profile of the appellation. Cultivated since the Middle Ages, the vineyard located on the steep slopes of the hill of Chaignot has always been a perfect fit for Burgundy’s native red grape variety. With a delicate nose of peonies, strawberries, raspberries and cherries, our Volnay 2017 shows a feminine profile. Chambolle-Musigny is rooted in the shallow clay and limestone soils on the easterly slopes of the Côte de Nuits, rising between 250 and 300 meters above sea level. Our Pinot Noir produced here is complex with soft tannins and a long finish. Once an adjunct to the Cîteaux Abbey, the vineyard gave its name to the village of Chambolle-Musigny, like 11 other climats throughout Côte d’Or. With its aromas and flavours of musk, red fruits, and dry flowers underlined by notes of sandalwood and game, our Chambolle- Musigny 2017 has a beautiful touch. While still in development, this velvet red wine with a long finish presents a delicate and silky texture, enhanced by well-integrated tannins. It is approachable now, with great potential for aging.

By combining the great winemaking traditions and innovations of both families, the founders’ singular goal was to create an exceptional wine in the heart of Napa Valley. Opus One, like any great work, arose out of passion. Dedicated to uncompromised quality, Opus One’s sole purpose is to express this vision and passionate spirit for generations to come. VINTAGE 2o21 In 2021, the vineyards experienced unseasonably dry conditions with the second lowest rainfall in Opus One’s history. The vineyard team took advantage of the dryness to cultivate early to avoid unnecessary competition for the limited water available. Cooler temperatures prevailed, and rains in late March arrived just in time for the slightly delayed bud-break on April 7th. Warmer weather in April and May allowed for ideal shoot growth and flowering began on May 17th. Reduced water led to lower-than-average yields, which gave the fruit exceptional concentration and flavor at harvest. The summer months were very warm; however, there were no prolonged periods over 100 degrees. Harvest began on August 31st and was steady and brief, with completion occurring on September 24th. The Opus One 2021 effuses seductive, dark-fruit aromas of crushed cassis, blackberry, and black cherry with subtle hints of violet, vanilla, and baking spices. Bright and fresh on the attack, concentrated flavors mirror the aromas and are coupled with an exceptionally plush, creamy texture in the mid-palate from the fine-grained tannins. Poignant notes of black tea, licorice, and dark chocolate lead to a long lingering finish. With attentive cellaring, the wine will delight for decades to come.
