Mornington Peninsula, Australia Opening with stone fruit and floral aromas with bright citrus notes, this wine has layers of fruit flavour and creamy complexity derived from 11 months aging on lees in barrel. Vintage 2016 was marked by warm and dry conditions and the Mornington Peninsula harvest was one of the earliest on record. It arrived in a hurry too and many vignerons were being picked in early February. The resulting wines have excellent flavour and weight and tend to be earlier drinking styles.

Its clear lemon color hides a very intense nose of white flowers, lemon, pear and white peaches, lined with notes of fresh mushrooms and chalky minerality. On the palate, the same flavors are expressed, concentrated and multi-layered yet elegant and well defined. The finish is long, with a lingering minerality expressive of this unique terroir. ChĆ¢teau Saint Pierre, a discreet but excellent Grand Cru ClassĆ© of Saint Julien owned by Henri Martinā€™s family. A fantastic history! Created in the 17th century, ChĆ¢teau Saint Pierre was divided and dispersed due to several successions, and then was restored as originally in 1982 by Henri Martin. The second wine, Esprit de Saint Pierre is vinified with the same attention as the one paid to the ā€œGrand Vinā€. Only 17 hectares of vineyard ChĆ¢teau Saint Pierre have always been the smallest Cru ClassĆ© in the appellation which leads to limited quantities. A good ability to age as most Saint Julien wines thanks to Cabernet Sauvignon that is giving its best on that gravels terroir in the heart of the Saint Julien village. Our Gnarly Vine Zinfandel is crafted entirely from vines planted in 1893. Vibrant, juicy red raspberry and black cherry unfurl on the palate, accented by the historic vineyardā€™s signature notes of earth and spice. The 2016 vintage, boasting stunning concentration and dazzling acidity, is gorgeous now and will age beautifully for another six to seven years. Our Gnarly Vine Zinfandel grapes were picked and sorted by hand. They were then gravity fed into small, open top tanks for a three-day cold soak before primary fermentation. The wine was aged in a combination of French oak barrels (48% new) and American oak barrels (19% new) for a total of 15 months. Varietal: 100% Zinfandel "Full-bodied, dense and layered with amazing fruit. Chocolate, too. Heady and wild. From ancient vines planted in the late 1800s. I love this for its history and reality.
