AN ODE TO THE ‘LUNCHEON CLARET’ – PASS THE DECANTER!

This well balanced expression of McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon is an ode to the ‘luncheon claret’. The fruit isfrom a vineyard with good breeding in the foothills of Willunga and Blewitt Springs and the resulting wine hasbeen made in a fruit driven style this vintage. It has classic First Drop drinkability, so bottoms up!

VINTAGE
Below average rainfall over winter followed by a very dry spring; with high wind sand cold nights in November disrupting flowering; and hot, dry conditions in December and early January reducing bunch and berry size; resulted in yields at least 50% below the 10-year average. Thankfully a cooler February and March led to slower ripening despite the low yields. Whilst variability within vineyards, caused by the earlier extremes in the seasons, meant for tricky picking decisions and reds that show great depth and structure.

Across the Côte de Beaune, limestone-rich soils are perfect for producing our Bourgogne Chardonnay, a well-balanced, fruity and fresh wine showing the potential of the Chardonnay grape. The most approachable appellation of Burgundy summarizes the essence of the region’s native white grape. We see it as an entry door on all the Villages, Premiers Crus and Grands Crus Burgundy’s vineyards have to offer.

Pale yellow in color with hints of gold, this Burgundy Chardonnay’s bouquet offers notes of ripe citrus and white flowers. The palate is fresh and generous, with delicious notes of almonds. The long, mouthwatering finish is complemented by the richness of this vintage. It can age gracefully for at least the next 10 years in your cellar.

Chateau de Pommard Volnay 2017

The pebble-rich and limestone soils of Volnay, rising between 230 and 280 meters above sea level, makes for a delicate, aromatic, and elegant Pinot Noir revealing the feminine profile of the appellation. Cultivated since the Middle Ages, the vineyard located on the steep slopes of the hill of Chaignot has always been a perfect fit for Burgundy’s native red grape variety. With a delicate nose of peonies, strawberries, raspberries and cherries, our Volnay 2017 shows a feminine profile. The palate reveals notes of pomegranate and sweet spices, such as vanilla and cinnamon, as well as silky and smooth tannins. With pronounced intensity and long finish, it is a Pinot Noir made for aging, that will evolve beautifully. Recommended Serving Temperature: 16°C

Chateau de Pommard Chambolle Musigny 2017

Chambolle-Musigny is rooted in the shallow clay and limestone soils on the easterly slopes of the Côte de Nuits, rising between 250 and 300 meters above sea level. Our Pinot Noir produced here is complex with soft tannins and a long finish. Once an adjunct to the Cîteaux Abbey, the vineyard gave its name to the village of Chambolle-Musigny, like 11 other climats throughout Côte d’Or. With its aromas and flavours of musk, red fruits, and dry flowers underlined by notes of sandalwood and game, our Chambolle- Musigny 2017 has a beautiful touch. While still in development, this velvet red wine with a long finish presents a delicate and silky texture, enhanced by well-integrated tannins. It is approachable now, with great potential for aging.

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG A deep ruby red, richer when compared to wines grown from our other vineyards. In the nose, it expresses itself as a symphony of aromas ranging from the intense smell of red-orange and violets to fresh balsamic herbal notes. This vineyard is characterized by a more creamy and silky taste coupled with a fun and vibrant saltiness. Wines from 2019 are certainly rich and Mediterranean. Food Pairing: Grilled meat of any kind, aged cheese, pizza, pasta and casseroles. Recommended Serving temperature: 18-20°C. Cellar Potential: 2047+ "The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Amore e Magia reminds me more of an exotic herbal tea than wine, as notes of incense and jasmine give way to spiced blood orange. This wine soothes with its silky texture and cool acidity. Ripe wild berries flatter the palate, contrasted by a hint of orange towards the end. On the finish, the tannins are grippy and edgy, providing a classic dry feel, while the tart cranberries fade beneath the rosy florals within. Patience is needed; this is a tight, young Brunello that shows off its southern roots." - VINOUS
