Chateau de Pommard Volnay Premiere Cru 2015
$138.00
TASTING
An elegant blend of two Premier Cru parcels, “Les Mitans” and “Les Brouillards,” produce this finely balanced and delicate Pinot Noir. It is the perfume of ripe red fruits and aromatic herbs that really holds your attention at first, echoed on the palate too. The texture is dense and, perhaps, more rustic than the 2014, with tannins which will soften and express more complexity and balance with time.
Serving Temperature: 16°C
SOILS
Overlooking Pommard, Volnay spreads its vines on the steep slopes of the Hill of Chaignot. Our Premier Cru comes from a complex alliance of soils, including limestone, calcareous scree and clay. The grapes benefit from a southeasterly exposure.
WINEMAKING
Hand-harvested grapes, hand-sorted on a vibrating table. 100% de-stemmed, placed into stainless steel fermentation vats by gravity flow. Weeks-long maceration, minimal pumping-over and punching-down down. Pressing in pneumatic press. Placed in French oak.
Production: 1,500 bottles

Château de Pommard is a winery in Pommard, Burgundy, France. Established in 1726, the property is known for its two Châteaux, gardens, and its 20-hectare walled vineyard, Clos Marey-Monge. The Châteaux, the vineyard and the winemaking facilities are operated and owned by Michael Baum, who purchased the estate in 2014. The winery produces "Clos" wines –Pinot Noir produced from the fruit of Clos Marey-Monge and "Family" wines –Grand Cru, Premier Cru, Village and Bourgogne wines from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir appellations across the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune.
Just three kilometres south from Beaune, the wine capital of Burgundy, the ancient vineyard of Clos Marey-Monge sits close to the centre of the Côte d’Or. At 20 hectares, Château de Pommard is the largest private Clos in Burgundy. It’s a place where grand architecture and passionate winemaking converge among the vines.
With almost three centuries of wisdom that has come from respecting and protecting Clos Marey-Monge, Michael Baum, Emmanuel Sala and oenologist and agronomic specialist, Antoine Lepetit de la Bigne, are on a mission to protect the vineyard for another 300 years with Biodynamic viticulture.
