BenMarco Expresivo 2020

$75.00

Gualtallary is recognized for its calcareous alluvial soils, and BenMarco Expresivo is the utmost expression of its typicity. It is a lineal, fresh wine with aromas of blackberries, pepper tree and violets that perfectly complement its mineral notes, its balanced natural acidity and its firm tannins. Besides, it has great aging potential.

Aging: 14 months in French oak barrels (70% new, 30% second-use).

Food Pairing: Red meats, roasted pork tenderloin, hard cheeses and cream-based sauces.

Grape Varietals: 85% Malbec, 15% Cabernet Franc

“Incredibly focused nose with plenty of racy red fruit and some blueberries. Spices and brambly, too. Quite precise with a medium to full body and a linear, persistent finish. Fine-grained tannins are in tune with its energy, delivering excellent drinkability. Shows the vibrancy and balance from this vintage. 85% malbec and 15% cabernet franc. Drink or hold.” – James Suckling

Description

BENMARCO EXPRESIVO DE GUALTALLARY

Gualtallary is one of the highest spots not only in Valle de Uco or Mendoza, but also in Argentina. Its vineyards go above 4,265 ft. in altitude with cold and austere weather conditions that allows the vine to grow strong and with intense aromas. Besides its low temperatures, this IG is also famous for its alluvial calcareous soils.

Our Gualtallary estate -located in a complex geological area- is divided into two sub-regions named Monasterio and Albo. A deep soil study led us to the conclusion that the estate is made of 5 different soil profiles with a total of 21 plots with unique characteristics.

As a result of the terroir’s singularities, BenMarco Expresivo Gualtallary is a lineal, fresh wine, with aromas of blackberries, pepper tree and violets. It stands out for its mineral notes, balanced natural acidity and firm tannins. It has a great aging potential.

This wine is a great option to enjoy paired with red meats, roasted pork tenderloin, hard cheeses and most cream-based sauces.

About brand

Conceived as the viticulturist’s wines. BenMarco wines are produced under the watchful eye of Edgardo Del Pópolo, one of the most renowned and experienced Argentinian viticulturists.

With a career of almost 30 years and a profound knowledge of Argentinian soils, Edy develops viticulturist’s wines with as little oenological intervention as possible, in order to reveal the true character of the finest terroirs of the country.

BenMarco wines have always been viticulturist’s wines. When Edy took over, in 2013, he bore his hallmark to the range by creating honest, transparent wines. Now, BenMarco’s stylish label and brand-new design reflect the wines’ character and essence in a much more accurate way.

Handpicked Regional Selection Chardonnay 2019

$48.00 Original price was: $48.00.$26.40Current price is: $26.40.
Our fruit was harvested by hand at the end of February then whole-bunch pressed and settled in tank before transfer to tank and barrel for fermentation. The wine underwent a partial malolactic fermentation and was aged for 10 months – part in stainless steel tank to retain fresh fruit flavours, part in barrel for added complexity. We used a mix of old and new French oak barrels. Crisp & Refreshing, White, Medium-bodied wine. Great with river trout, Asian style dishes, roast chicken.

Chateau de Pommard Clos Marey – Monge “Simone” 2016

$560.00 Original price was: $560.00.$532.00Current price is: $532.00.
Nestled at the foot of the Château de Pommard, Simone is a 0.53 hectares plot of remarkable terroir. The delicacy and intensity of a red wine strongly depends on the quality of the internal surface of clay contained in the soil. The higher the density, the more a vineyard can produce grand cuvées. In 2009, Claude et Lydia Bourguignon, both agronomists and founders of the Microbiological Laboratory for Soils, conducted a thorough study on the Clos Marey-Monge and the Simone plot. What they found exceeded every expectation. With an internal surface of clay beyond 730 square meters per gram, Simone is close to the world record. With only 1,800 bottles of this intense, rich and complex Pinot Noir—our rarest cuvée, produced in the most generous years, Simone is available by allocation only. Powerful and delicate, our Simone 2017 shows a deep, dark and bright ruby colour with purple accents. The nose first reveals wild aromas of venison, underwood and elderberry, followed by notes of red roses, dry flowers and sweet spices. The palate is fresh, with a firm yet velvety tannic structure. With a long, vibrant and salty finale, this Pinot Noir shows an impressive depth that will still be there in 30 years from now. For sales inquiry please contact order@maltwineasia.com.

Chateau de Pommard Marey-Monge Vivant 2016

$145.00
TASTING Behind its clear, pale ruby color, Vivant 2016 hides a youthful nose and palate full of strawberries, red cherries, and sweet spices, such as white pepper. The finish is long, while the tannins are thin, creating a velvety texture. Alongside acidity and alcohol, they create a balanced and harmonious structure that will enable this wine to age elegantly. Serving Temperature: 16°C SOILS Over the course of the Jurrasic era, our subsoil turned into a millefeuille of geologic strata. Our vineyards have varying degrees of sun exposure, soil composition, and vine ages depending on their location within the Clos Marey-Monge. Vivant is produced from our youngest vines. WINEMAKING Hand-harvested grapes, hand-sorted on a vibrating table. 100% de-stemmed, placed into stainless steel fermentation vats by gravity flow. Weeks-long maceration, minimal pumping-over and punching-down. Pressing in pneumatic press. Placed in French oak barrels for aging on fine lees. Light filtration. Production: 5,000 bottles

Ornellaia 2016 “La Tensione”

$300.00
Ornellaia is a cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc & Petit Verdot and the faithful expression of unique terroir developed in harmony with nature. 2016 represents another immensely successful vintage highlighting all the virtues of Bolgheri’s climate: abundant sunshine, without excessive heat, a dry summer to allow the grapes to achieve perfect ripeness and concentration, and just about enough rain to avoid stress. All these elements combine to yield a wine that shows lush ripeness and crisp firmness, opposing forces creating a sense of dense raciness we like to describe as “tension”. Particularly dark and young colour is the prelude to a complex nose of black berries, spices and cedar. The palate is rich and dense, balanced by a refined and firm tannic structure, lifted by a juicy and bright acidity. 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot Awards
