In Barbados, rum isn’t just another spirit. We’re the original rum island, where rum was first created some 400 years ago. We’ve spent the last few centuries perfecting the art of distilling and blending our country’s most famous export.

At Bumbu Rum Company, we handcraft our rums from a blend of the finest sugarcane from across the West Indies. Our rum is exceptionally balanced and smooth, without sacrificing the richness and complexity that makes our Barbados distillery’s rum the world’s best – although we’re a little biased.

Our rum heritage isn’t just historical – it’s geological. Unlike most Caribbean islands (formed by volcanos), Barbados was created by coral reefs. Here, our ground water is purified as it’s forced through our natural limestone, making Barbadian water some of the finest in the world. Distillers elsewhere must filter their water before using it in their process – not so here. This exceptionally pure water, coupled with carefully selected sugarcane from across the Caribbean and South America, lends the lightness and smoothness that’s central to Bumbu’s remarkable drinkability.

Bumbu is made at a historic Barbadian distillery founded in 1893 and continuously operated for more than 120 years. Our rum is distilled using two continuous stills. The yeast used during fermentation is a distillery secret that dates back as far as 1840, when some of our original iron pot stills were cast.

Bumbu : XO

$108.00
Bumbu XO is truly a thing of beauty. A smooth, rich and complex handcrafted rum created from scratch by our master distiller, our XO is aged up to 18 years in bourbon barrels and finished in Spanish white oak sherry casks to achieve a beautifully balanced, endlessly sippable rum. This special release is distilled and aged in Panama, where we created a truly unique – and unquestionably superior – rum. Aromas of toffee, toasted oak, and vanilla give way to orange zest, peppery spice and even a hint of coffee on the palate. A wonderfully engaging rum that encourages repeat visits, Bumbu XO is perfect for traditional rum cocktails – and perhaps even better on its own, neat or with a single ice cube.

Bumbu : The Original

$78.90
Our flagship Bumbu Rum is based on the original recipe created by 16th and 17th century sailors of the West Indies, who blended native Caribbean ingredients into their rum and called it “Bumbu” – truly the original craft spirit. Bumbu is distilled and bottled at a 123-year old distillery in Barbados from first class sugarcane selected from eight countries across the West Indies. The finished blend is aged up to 15 years in once-used, grade-A bourbon barrels. These barrels have a medium dark colour, which gives Bumbu its rich colour and enhances the vanilla notes in its taste profile.
